What this is all about.

This blog is going to serve as a major assignment for a Formal and Informal Assessments class, within my Special Education MEd program.  It will be (hopefully) choc full and (again, hopefully) interesting to you the reader.  It will consist of articles, videos, links, and information about how theatre and special education are helping to serve one another in the education world, and in the community.

I chose this topic because I already have a BA and MA in theatre education, and have been interested for some time in how theatre and special education connect.  How can the theatre community embrace audience members and theatre makers with special needs (and I include folks with physical disabilities in this blanket category too)?  What can theatre do for kids, teens, and adults with different abilities?  What can the two communities learn from each other to help one another grow?  Who decides what theatre looks like and who gets to make it?  Anyone with a willingness and a drive and a hunger to create should have the opportunity to do so.

*steps off soapbox smiling*

Look for more info as the days and weeks go by.  But for now, enjoy this video of Deaf West's 2014 production of Spring Awakening.  We will get to this incredible win for the home team in the not too distant future.

Keep on making theatre... yeah, you.
